Lou Cougill moved to Switzerland County from Noblesville, Indiana in 2006. Lou was a member of the USMC, and lists being a farmer as his primary vocation. He has also done body work, been a mechanic and a metal fabricator. He had used a metal lathe in his professional life, so in 2013 he decided to try his hand at turning wood to make Christmas gifts. It piqued his interest so much that he has never stopped. He loves to see a form in nature and try to re-create it. He does the majority of his work in a studio in one of his barns. He has quite an assortment of woodworking equipment. Keeping Lou company on his 126 acre farm north of Vevay are 16 donkeys and a dog named Lucy. As a matter of fact, raising miniature donkeys and walleye fishing are past hobbies that Lou also showed a great deal of success in. Today his primary pastime is woodturning. To quote Lou, “I am just an old farmer trying to have a little fun!” Everyone who knows Lou understands, because he brings fun to every occasion!
